Everything in America is bigger, right? The name “Mall of America” conjures up an image of the biggest shopping mall I’ve ever seen. It’s in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a northerly city in the American Midwest. And yes, it is the BIGGEST mall in the USA! This is a destination shopping mall which is now celebrating its 25th anniversary year. There’s so much extra going on here that people come for vacations and short breaks. You can buy hotel and theme park packages for the Mall of America. That’s right, I did say “theme park”! This is the home…

We had two aims on our family trip to the USA and planned everything around them. The first aim (and the whole point, really) was to see my brother and family in New York state, a 5 hour drive north of New York. The second aim was to see the total eclipse on Monday 21st August and we had a choice of locations for that. We had been saving KLM/Delta frequent flyer points for the last ten years to do this trip, so our travel was always going to be dictated by the airline route map. We flew into New…

In August we went to the USA to see relatives in the north of New York state. I’m not a city-break person but who could pass up the opportunity to see New York City just one time? I know this is not the most amazing photo of Niagara falls, although I am quite pleased with the birds in it. I think I hit the decisive moment with them. It’s not the classic view from a helicopter and the sun isn’t shining through. But it is the one and only time I am ever there, and this is my photo, so it means a lot to me. I took more photos from the clifftop and some of those are more of a classic view of the falls. But this shot was taken from the boat ride and I…

I tell everyone that I’ve been planning this trip to see the total solar eclipse for the last 7 years. Honestly, it’s not really true. We had it in mind to see it in person on the 21st of August this year but it was only in January 2017 that we booked the flights and hotel. We wouldn’t normally fly thousands of miles to see an eclipse but we are in the USA already visiting family, so that gets us close enough to make the extra trip. Selecting an Eclipse Viewing Location The eclipse passes across the USA in a…
